Google Photos is becoming a major competitor to Apple’s iCloud, and is a new way to share, organize, and edit all of your photos taken on your phone.

Group Faces
Google Photos offers a great way to organize your photos by recognizing the same face in each image uploaded. To make it work check that it’s activated on the Settings menu and select the search bar in the app. It will bring up a series of faces that Google has identified in photos you have uploaded. Next, just tap each face to label it with the name (person or pet!) and that’s it. Now when you search the name it will bring up photos of that person.
Objects
A similar handy Google Photos offers is being able to search for objects. The Google AI allows you to search for objects just as you search for faces. Just type in an object, like “coffee”, and Google Photos will bring up all your photos with coffee in them. There may be a few mistakes, but it’s always learning and improving.
Location
One of the most useful features Google Photos offers is the ability to search and organize your photos by location. This is great for finding photos you remember were taken in a certain place but not at a certain time, like a favorite vacation spot. You can enable this feature by going to the Assist menu and clicking “add location to your photos” to let your search by geographical location. Great for vacation montages over the years.
Edit Photos
Google Photos also allows you to edit your photos easily. Just click on the symbol on the bottom of the screen to pick from a number of filters. This gives you many options, and you can also rotate photos and adjust brightness, light and color.
Make a Movie
Another fun feature is the ability to make a movie from your photos. Go to the Assist menu and click the Movie tab. Google Photos will give you some suggested movies from your photos, but you can easily make your own, too. You can select up to 50 photos and videos for a movie, and you can also add your choice of music and the duration of each photo.
Upload to YouTube
Google Photos gives you the option to upload videos and movies you’ve made directly to YouTube. Go to YouTube Studio and you can import your videos quickly and easily.
Share Your Photos
You can easily share your photos and videos through Google Photos. To do this, click the Sharing button on the bottom right, and then Start a new share. Then pick the photos and videos and who to send them to. You can send them to anyone, and they don’t need the app to see what you have sent them.
