You will find most of them preferring to have fun rather than buy an expensive car or watch. Why is this so?

Here, Issa Asad Explains Why You Should Invest in Adventures (When It’s Safe Again):

Happiness over material items is short lived

There is an adage that says that the greatest enemy of happiness is adaptation. Most people buy expensive possessions, they get happy for some time then the excitement starts to fade. It is important to note that immediately we adapt to a new thing, the excitement of having it starts to fade away.

In other words we are saying, that feeling you get when you buy a new car or phone will not last a lifetime, it will fade as soon as the new item becomes part of your daily life.

On the other hand, adventures such as hiking, traveling are always memorable. Unlike material stuffs that are separate from you, experiences are a part of our lives. They mold our character. We easily identify with them, they make us who we are and bring a greater sense of satisfaction.

Experiences help you to achieve your purpose and passions

Each day when you wake up, you should make a step closer to fulfill your purpose and passions. Your activities should depict your passion and goals. Therefore, they should not be influenced by material possessions but rather by your purpose and passions.

For example, if you are offered to get a full album of your favorite artist or attend a fully paid concert of your all time favorite musician. Which one of the two would you settle for? The concert, is it? This is because, the concert will leave a lasting impact into your life. You will be highly inspired by attending a live show than watching the album at home.

Material possessions will not help you make new friends

When interacting with friends, do you find easy to discuss about an experience you had together or about your new car? The former is true. It is easy to share experiences directly with your friends. They will always be part of the story even after they are long gone. You will notice you will increase your social circle when you have many experiences with your colleagues, school mates etc.

Experiences make you have common topics to discuss with your friend. You can talk about how you felt during the adventure, the challenges you faced etc. That creates a long lasting bond and connection. That conversation will be more alive than discussing your new car.

As seen above, there are many reasons why you should buy adventures, not things. This is partly because adventures are more fleeting and are more memorable even in 100 years to come. Acquiring material possessions will give you short term happiness that will fade away immediately you get used to your new property.

Therefore, the next time you hear there is an event near you, mark your calendar and plan to attend the shows. That way you will gain an experience that you will live to remember.
