Affiliate marketing is one of the most lucrative form of online businesses that anyone can run. But just because lots of people have made a killing at affiliate marketing, and still are, does not mean that it is easy to do.

1. Hard Selling Your Products

Yes, affiliate marketing is primarily about making the sale. That is why you are in the business at all. The problem with that is that online customers have become increasingly desensitized towards being sold. Way too many people have been scammed way too many times that they now have a subconscious scam radar that goes off any time they see anyone trying to hard sell them online.
If your landing pages are riddled with ‘buy now’ signs or calls to action and unrealistic product descriptions and benefits, then people will automatically shy away from them.

New affiliate marketers make the mistake of thinking that if they tell their potential clients everything nice about the product, and only everything nice, then the clients will be inclined to buy. This is actually wrong. People know that there is no product that is all good. They know that there are going to be potential problems and that there are no absolutes; not everyone is GUARANTEED to love the product. They want you to be honest with them. Tell the good, the bad and let them decide for themselves. Don’t push them too hard.

2. Promoting Every Product You Come Across

It is easy to get excited about new products. You will come across products that seem like easy sales; products that offer great commissions and products that you actually like. As much as you will want to, you cannot promote everything. Well, at least you shouldn’t. If you try to promote too many products you will only end up stressing yourself out and making little headway. Choose a niche, choose a few worthy products and concentrate on those. Once you are sure everything is set up properly and that it doesn’t need 23 out of 24 hours of your day to run, then you can start building up other avenues.

3. The New Shiny Toy Syndrome

New products come up every day. And almost every new product will sell hard and fast in the beginning. You will see adverts for it everywhere and you will think that maybe you are missing out. You may be tempted to drop everything you are doing and start work on promoting the new product. Tomorrow, the same thing happens, only with a newer, even hotter selling product. So you do the same thing. Before you know it, you have about 60 product website that are all halfway done and none are selling as well because you did not take the time to set them up properly. Keep your focus and finish with one thing at a time. No matter how shiny and new the others may be.

4. Take Time to Learn

You need to take the time to learn the trade craft. Granted, there are some lessons that only experience can teach and you will learn as you go along. But before you start throwing your money around trying to get your hands on every piece of information about affiliate marketing, take the time to carry out proper due diligence. Find out where the best in the industry get their education from and start learning. You will need it.
